Short Hiatus: Hell Week

No Comment // Written on Sep 27, 2008 // Blogging by a Noob, College Philosophy, KPop, Korean 한국, My Story

Actually, it’s Hell Weeks. I might not be able to blog until after finals week (October 6-11). I might have a few minutes for plurking though. But yeah, I’ve lots of papers to submit. I even missed one paper in Fil11 - not that I did it on purpose but getting food-poisoned after eating kwek kwek and siomai at Recto station really helped… really.

So first off, my conscience tells me I’m obliged to ride with the Blue Eagle wings therefore I’m publicly declaring my overwhelming joy after Ateneo’s big win at the UAAP 2008 Finals against oh-we’re-supposed-to-hate-them-so-much La Salle. Right. That didn’t really sound so sincere so let me try again: “Go Ateneo! One Big Fight!” Was that too overused? How about “Mary for You! For Your White and Blue!” Oh no. I really don’t know how to do it when everyone else seems to be doing it in YM status messages, multiply posts, and heck, even in Krispy Kreme doughnut-eating sessions. Forgive my being an impassionate freshie. Wait, I’m just really not a UAAP fan afterall. Anyhow, congrats Team Ateneo! YOU GUYS deserve the big win. :)

Second, TVXQ’s 4th Album, Mirotic, is already available online for (unhelpful-to-the-boys) download. I won’t download. I won’t download! I’ll try not to, at least. I will patiently wait for my copy to arrive at my doorsteps even if it may arrive after finals week - HELL WEEK.

Speaking of hell week, my post title never mentioned anything about Tiu, Baclao, Rabeh the Blue Eagles or even Ateneo in general. It also didn’t say anything about TVXQ or Mirotic (although I sort of wish it did but it would kill my main purpose for writing this post). To make this long post short…er, I’m going on a short hiatus maybe until after hell week. ‘Nuff said. (Yeah, I know. You should’ve skipped to that sentence right away, huh?)

Manga Messiah

I went to National Bookstore a while ago to look for a copy of Life of Pi. I happened to pass by this manga with a very familiar character in the cover. I picked it up and read the writing on the back.

From the biggest-selling book in the history of the world…
comes the greatest story ever told…
about the most controversial man who ever lived…
presented in the most popular graphic novel format on earth.

I flipped through the pages and my eyes went O_O

Do you dare to read his story…
Even if it may change your life forever?

I’m not going to review this. I’m not good with reviewing anyway. I just wanted to share. This is probably the first ever manga I bought immediately after flipping through the pages, without thinking twice. ^_^

What I like about Manga Messiah is not only the fact that it’s the Gospel in Manga form but the way the Gospels are portrayed. It strays from the traditional portrayals - in a good way. In Manga Messiah, you can see Simon acting all goofy with his brother Andrew. Judas is a “red-haired bishounen.”* It makes knowing Jesus’ story a lot lighter in tone. And I don’t see anything wrong with it. It even mentions the Bible verses from which each page is derived at the bottom of each page.

The price is cheap for a full-colored manga (Php 175) since it’s published by a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to distribute biblically-based manga around the world. The artists behind the manga are all Japanese therefore giving it the authentic manga feel. Manga Messiah is the first of 5 volumes of the Manga Bible series. The other 4 aren’t released yet but I’ll be waiting for them… definitely.

I don’t view it as something that would make me stay away from reading the Bible. I just see it as something supplemental. But it would still depend on the person. All else, Manga Messiah definitely satisfies my manga-enthusiast and Christian self.

A SPORE Fangirl is Born

3 Comments // Written on Sep 12, 2008 // Non-Asian for Once

My most awaited game of The Sims creator, Will Right, has just been released recently and I’m already dying to get my hands on the Spore Galactic Edition! It costs almost 4,000 in Philippine peso. Limited quantities are available. I still don’t have it. Limited quantities are available. Nooo!

I played it today - don’t ask how I got it. I’m not going to go critic-mode with this cause I totally love it! For no explainable reason I can say it was beautiful! Gorgeous! Genius! Cute! What else can I expect from master Will Right? Although some may try to condemn this masterpiece of a video game to eternal damnation by drawing on “Christian” values (antispore.com), I remain a fangirl and I can prove to you that…

Downloaded fansite kit (with no intent of making a site). Downloaded all wallpapers of all sizes (even if I can’t possibly use them all at once). Will start making icons and signatures using the renders from the fansite kit. Plans on making a fanlisting using the fansite kit. Played SPORE (even if there’s a long test in math tomorrow). Will beg on my knees for financial aid to get my sweaty hands on the shiny SPORE GALACTIC EDITION!

*Faints out of too much spazzing*
